Red rice from the Camargue region in France
The rice is grainy and has a nutty aroma. The rice has a red/brown film to the grain. This color is also obtained through the clayey soil in which the rice plant grows. The actual grain is white, and therefore only untreated and unpeeled red rice is available as natural rice.
Red rice is grown for centuries in Central Asia: it is a long-grain, light aromatic rice with a brown red fleece. He is the result of a cross of wild rice and cultivated rice species. In Europe, this red rice grown in the French Camargue area since 1980.
Red Camargue rice has the IPG (Indication Géographique Protégée) obtained. This protective geographical indication, the coming of a product. It is a European label that the name of the product protects throughout the European Union.
